BESTIARY

HEY THERE! THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION BUT YOU'RE WELCOME TO PEEK!

I. THE ANAMIDS

HOLOCENE EARTH ANIMALS: All animals of Earth's Holocene period (dates back about 11,000 years to today), whether currently extant or extinct, are common in Gilead. While they have no Magic, they are still worthwhile companions. Everyone needs a friend.

II. THE MEGAFAUNA

TWO-HEADED FAUNA: THF are Anamids that have many mutations, often additive, and despite their name it is not only related their heads despite how common. It is theorized to be the result of Magic instability. As a result, THF have slight Magic prowess.
HAAST'S EAGLE:With an average 6m-15m wingspan and weighing in at around 80lbs-100lbs, the Haast is a formidable bird of prey. Not to be confused with the much smaller Anamid by the same name, these are often distinguished by their nickname: The Thunderbird. This Megafauna has an innate use of weaker Electrokinesis, which it uses to engulf itself in. Their population has begun to make a comeback after over-exploitation for war led to a crash in the species. Because of their size and Magic use, Haasts have been very integral by supplementing the front lines with bolts of lightning from above to scatter the enemy. Haast's tend to be very protective of their territory, which makes it very easy to know when one is nearby. Lightning unassisted by thunder or even storm conditions is typically a sure-fire indicator and is intentionally used as a warning.
SABER TOOTH CAT: Often shortened to Sabres, these creatures come in all shapes and sizes of felines with long, powerful fangs. Smaller Sabres may be the size of a house cat or smaller, while larger Sabres may be the size of a draft horse. They are quick and efficient ambush predators stacked end-to-end with muscle for a solid frame. Because of their muscular density, they are incredibly difficult to kill and there have even been stories of people's blades breaking deep into the beast's flesh without it flinching for a moment. Once one sets its sights on you, managing to kill it is your only chance of survival.
MAMMOTH BEAR: Known for their impressive stature that can rival that of elephants, Mammoth Bears are the largest Megafauna in Gilead. What they lack in speed they make up for in sheer size, stamina and strength. Because of their heavy bushy or woolly coats, Mammoth Bears are almost strictly a norther-borne animal, although companions can easily have their coats sheared down for hotter climates. Heavily revered by Snelandia and considered a symbol of the people, Mammoth Bears are very popularly employed as mounts, couriers and general companions.
PRINCELING: Often called the "Kings and Queens of the Forest," Princelings are defined as any antlered Ungulates large enough to be ridden with relative ease. Both females and males possess impressive antlers, as well as minor Magic use of Plants. Because they have been previously hunted to the brink of extinction for the medicinal value in their antlers, Princelings are said to have adapted a behavior of utter secrecy, making them incredibly difficult to encounter.

III. THE DRACONIANS

DRAGONS: Dragons are beasts of legend in Gilead. Spoken of as deities in their own right separate from the Old Gods, it is widely believed throughout the world that the Old Gods had furnished a pact with the ever-wise landlords of Gilead who are believed to have claimed Gilead long before the Old Gods were born from the earth's center. Believed to be willing judges for the Old Gods in response to the Magic Crisis threatening their own interests, Dragons and their intentions have captured the imagination of countless many. Each continent was once home to what are termed Elder Dragons, the originals of their breed, who with the rest of their kind have now long gone due to The Blackening; whether by death or some unexplained phenomenon. With the death of each Elder Dragon, disasters like tsunamis and seismic earthquakes shook the continent they once called home. With the judges seemingly gone for good, many atrocities have gone unchecked.
DRAKES: Drakes are rarer than other extant Draconians, but still very much thriving in the far reaches of Gilead. With a need for large spaces to claim as their own, entire civilizations have been brutally wiped out by the aggressive apex predators looking to roost and build their hoards. In the off chance that they choose an unwilling hostage to keep them company, Drakes are often unpredictably explosive, demanding and abusive, true to a beast to hoards both living and nonliving treasure. It was surmised that Dragons in an earlier time kept the more territorial and vain Draconians of this species in check by keeping them down a few pegs. Drakes are the most commonly known Draconian to speak fluidly, and there are even supposedly legendary books out there that have been ghost written for a particularly-prolific Drake.
RAPTIDS: Raptor is a general term for all predatory creatures of the Jurassic and surrounding periods. Raptids are highly intelligent creatures that get around their handicap, when compared to some of the other Draconians, with sheer brain power and eusocial capabilities. Often likened to a wolf-like understanding of rules and an almost Human-like grasp of culture and society, a fool would mistake Raptids as wild animals and gloss over their incredible understanding of concepts like risk vs reward and long term investment. While they struggle severely with language outside of Scritt unlike other Draconian species with more fluid language capabilities, they are often mistaken as primal and simple. Because of this, many self-proclaimed researchers of the rare creatures, who assumed their assimilation into a group was permanent, found themselves devoured only after their meal tickets successfully taught them where their next fruitful migration should take them.
WYVERN: The more common of the Draconians in Gilead. Wyverns are far smaller in size than Drakes and Dragons on average, though their sizes otherwise vary between one another. Their lacking size is what grants them an advantageous wing-to-body ratio, leading to excellent speed and agility that is unmatched by the larger, more powerful Draconians. Their death-defying loops and twists and dives are incredible to see if one ever manages to; catching sight of one before it zips from sight is quite a feat. Wyverns typically do best in large groups and have often been dubbed "the wolves of the sky" for their tight bonds and meaningful connections. Unlike larger, more solitary Draconians, Wyverns tend to hunt in groups or at least with one or two familiar, trusted individuals. They work together with the single goal of toppling their prey, snapping and ripping at the legs while another jerks their victim in directions opposing where their feet are being pulled: this whiplash tends to dishevel their prey enough to topple and leave them open for a killing blow.
